Rain warnings remain as stormy weather drifts south

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Rain warnings remain in place today as a large low pressure system moves towards Gisborne and Hawkes Bay from the north.

Rain will be heavy enough to cause flooding and slips in the east and WeatherWatch.co.nz advises motorists to be on the look out for debris on the roads.

Strong to gale force south or south east winds are also going to blow across the lower North Island after many calm days recently.

Normally at this time of year Wellington and much of the South Island are hit by strong southerly blasts however the southerlies today will be generated by the low in the north east and not a southern storm.

Mild weather will continue over the North Island while sunny weather remains over much of the South Island, especially Southland and Central Otago.
