Rain spreading; winds strengthen – The Big Picture on Friday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Increasing cloud and rain, along with strengthening winds are the orders of the day as we head into our weekend – with a northerly airflow developing over the North Island.

Sunny and areas increase along with high cloud, spreading from the north, from Northland in the morning.
Rain moves into Northland in the afternoon, before covering much of the Upper North Island by evening, and spreading further south overnight.

The South Island sees a northwesterly airflow increase, and while it’s mainly dry in the east, the West Coast has areas of cloud spreading and turning wet later on.
It’s cloudy for South Westland too, with the odd light shower turning to rain there in the evening.
Northerly winds strengthen about western and southern parts of the South Island overnight too.
