Rain moves into the west and south

The west and south of the mainland is under overcast skies this evening with some rain ahead of a wintry Friday expected.

Invercargill has a northwesterly with a little rain but the mercury is down to 6 degrees.

Westport has recorded the heaviest falls within the last hour with an easterly and a relatively mild 11 degrees.

Cape Reinga has a sou’ wester gusting in excess of 60 kph and the warmest temperature in the land with 15 degrees.
