Patchy rain will today spread across the North Island – with the front crossing Auckland much earlier than previously predicted. The main front is now likely to pass over the city later this morning or around lunch time.
The rain, associated with a couple of small lows around the South Island, will clear most places in the west this afternoon or evening at the latest.
The rain and light nor’westers today mean yet another mild day for many in the North Island, particularly eastern parts of the North Island where the mercury is likely to reach 20 degrees.
WeatherWatch.co.nz says the first week of June is definitely well above average temperature wise with the first half of week two looking warmer than average as well.
By this weekend and early next week a cold southerly change is predicted but it may only last until mid next week when another low in the north western Tasman Sea moves closer to New Zealand, possibly cranking up a mild nor’wester yet again.

Hi Didi – it’s now clearing – although clearly slower over Northland. Low chance of a heavy, isolated, shower this afternoon but chances are it will be dry and fairly sunny.

Hi there – no Auckland won’t get any thunder today. In fact the rain cloud spectacularly fell apart as it moved into Auckland – but remained quite heavy over Northland and Waikato. Thems the breaks!
