The West Coast of the South Island and the Southern Alps look like they`re in for the worst of the falls, with the north of the island also in for some wet weather through the day too.
Nelson and parts of the Canterbury headwaters look like getting their fair share of rainfall, the result of a very moist north to northwest flow.
Winds as a part of that airflow will gust strongly at times, from inland Canterbury northwards through to Marlborough – gusting strongest about exposed areas, hilltops and river gorges.
Along with that, Cook Strait will do its usual thing and funnel that wind through strongly, with gale force gusts likely through the day.
