A number of weak fronts will today and tomorrow move slowly across the country bringing much needed rain to dry regions.
WeatherWatch.co.nz says that some areas may see some good top ups while others may not be so lucky.
Head weather analyst Philip Duncan says the air pressure is high over the upper North Island which will limit rainfall. “We’re seeing some weak fronts trying to push north from the south west over the coming day or two. They will try to bring rain to Northland but will be weakening as they head northward”.
“While not everyone will get rain this week we are expecting 10 to 20mm of rain across a number of western and northern regions – potentially into Northland as well”.
Mr Duncan said heavy drizzle on Saturday saw some areas receive 20mm in Northland and Rodney – but that it wasn’t widespread.
WeatherWatch.co.nz also predicts rain should move into the South Island’s west coast and about Southland at the weekend – but says it’s unlikely much moisture will spread north.

We here in Kaukapakapa had some rain and drizzle but it was only about 5mm. Down in the Kaipara Harbour i could see some heavier rain. Water tankers going up and down the road here also getting quiet annoying!! Hoping for some decent rain very soon otherwise we need a water tanker as well! 🙁

Where we are in Coatesville (Rodney District), I don’t think we got more than a few spits of rain over the weekend, which all but evaporated before they hit the ground!. Water tankers up and down Albany hill constantly (including to our place already – far earlier than previous years).

There were patches around the upper North Island that had persistent drizzle and/or light rain. Similar weather in November produced these rainfall totals in Auckland and Bay of Plenty – but, as we’ve said, they were very isolated.

the fronts are going to be weak
I would not be getting peoples hopes up of anything much at all for the upper NI
sorry to be pessimistic, but it is now December and rain for the upper NI is hard to come by at this time of year at the best of times!
