Queenstown rockfall causes mayhem for motorists

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Drivers are being warned to take care after a large rockfall temporarily closed the main road into Queenstown over the weekend.

State Highway 6 in the Kawerau Gorge Road has now reopened but the New Zealand Transport Agency warns further rockfalls are possible.

The rockfall was triggered by days of wind and rain in the area.

Traffic was diverted to the Crown Range, but that road was also closed for a time due to heavy snow.

Rock stabilisation is continuing on State Highway 6 near Cromwell and delays are expected.
