Poll Results: NZers split on whether winter is better when it’s colder or warmer

> From the WeatherWatch archives

It seems New Zealanders are a bit divided on whether or not they like winter to be as cold as possible or warmer than average.

In our recent week-long-poll a slight majority with 42% said they consider “colder” Winters in New Zealand to be “better”.

34% say they like it when Winter is “Warmer than usual” (you’ll like the next week ahead then!).

Around a quarter said they prefer an average winter.

August can be a very changeable month in New Zealand. Spring-conditions often arrive in some regions as early as this month, but it can be a dramatic time too with sudden snow storms and major nationwide cold snaps always quite possible.

The warm spell currently spreading over New Zealand is timed at what is traditionally the true depths of winter/coldest time of the year.
