Poll Results: New Zealand is a divided country (+ soil moisture map)

> From the WeatherWatch archives

It’s not often a poll with four answers splits itself up into even sections, but our current poll shows just how much our hills and ranges have blocked rain for some regions while giving others a drenching this year.

The poll we just ran this week asked if you have had enough rain so far this year.

At the time of writing this story three of the four answers were perfectly even with 27% support, which is very unusual!

So to break it down more clearly we’ll look at simply as just YES or NO.

53% say that Yes they have had too much rain, or just enough – and would clearly enjoy some dry weather.

47% say No, they need more rain soon or or a lot more rain immediately.

As you can see in this soil moisture map below (made by NIWA which is a Crown owned research institute and funded by the New Zealand tax payer), the areas in red, orange and gold are the regions that urgently need rain while the greens, blues and even yellows are wetter and can cope with a couple weeks more of dry.
