It’s October 15th and the latest week-long poll results show 62% of New Zealanders are heating their homes either every now and then or most days and nights.
To be honest the results are not that surprising – October is a turbulent month when we truly get a mix of warm and cold air.
This past week we’ve seen a few snow flurries (including in Queenstown) and frosts through inland areas of both islands. In previous years we’ve seen single digit highs as far north as Auckland city (today has a high of 16 or 17 and that is considered “cool” compared to the warmer than average highs of previous days and weeks).
This coming week eastern areas of both islands will climb into the low to mid 20s range.
17% of those who voted in our poll say they aren’t needing the heat very often these days – perhaps just on the occasional cold evening or morning.
But quite a staunch 22% said they are done with the heating for 2016 – or maybe, sadly, couldn’t afford to heat their home at all.
Thanks for voting – our next poll is tomorrow.
