Poll Results: Autumn’s in the air, but summer isn’t letting go either

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Our latest poll shows Autumn is here but that Summer isn’t giving up easily on New Zealand this year.

The week-long poll comes to a close today and the results show a clear leader with nearly half of every responding with “It feels like Autumn”.

But 52% said summer was still in the air, although just 16% said it still very much still feels like summer a further 36% said it feels like a combination of both autumn and summer.  This is quite common in March as the transition into true Autumnal weather can sometimes drag into April and May, especially for northerners.

March also signals a little more unrest in our weather patterns and pressure systems. This can trigger more nor’west events (like we saw on Friday) and that can boost temperatures into the 30s, certainly making for summer-iike weather.

But with the nights becoming longer than the days within the next week there’s no denying it – Autumn is gradually arriving as summer slowly slides away.
