POLL RESULTS: Autumn clinging on til the end

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Well the results of our latest poll are back, and it seems as though autumn is still hanging in there, despite winter officially starting tomorrow(!)

We’ve had plenty of correspondence from people talking about the unusual conditions so far in 2014, and trees and plants are often a great barometer for the rest of the climate.

According to our readers, it seems as though most deciduous trees are clinging on to what is left of the season, with more than 65% of respondents saying that trees are either still green, or changing slowly.

One reader noted:

“autumn for me is called the vanishing season… I remember when i first came to New Zealand all the leaves would fall off 8 years ago… Now not even one leaf form my eye has fallen off any of my trees.”

Others commented that they hoped the winter wouldn’t be as severe as the autumn had been in certain places. For Philip Duncan’s latest weather outlook, click here.
