Poll Results: As a nation we’re a bit divided about what weather we want this Winter

> From the WeatherWatch archives

New Zealanders are fairly scattered on what they prefer for winter weather this year according to our latest poll, with the results released on a week that looks to be milder than average according to WeatherWatch.co.nz.

A sub-tropical low fueling easterly quarter winds for the start of this week then a late week and weekend nor’west change from Australia should see warmer than usual conditions this week in a number of regions. WeatherWatch.co.nz says the recent cold snaps have produced some colder than normal weather but that generally the winter ahead looks to be average to perhaps again milder than average for some (but that may still likely be colder than recent years which had milder than average winters in many regions due to a lack of southerlies – this year we have the southerly bursts fuelling the recent sub zero polar blasts).

In our latest poll 38% are wanting a colder than usual winter this year compared to 31% who want it to be warmer than average.

20% say “average is fine with me”.

This leaves 11% who simply love the randomness of winter weather “I don’t mind, I just enjoy what comes my way”.

While polling people on what weather they want makes no impact on the outcome of the weather it is interesting to see trends from the public over various seasons and during particular recent events. It also helps us shape content that is more helpful to you as we head through winter. Thanks for voting!
