Poll Results: 43% of NZers say La Nina “not good news”

> From the WeatherWatch archives

In our most recent poll WeatherWatch.co.nz asked New Zealanders how they felt about La Nina, now that it’s been declared globally.

A huge 43% said they believe this was “not good news”. La Nina usually delivers more rain, more cloud and more humidity – especially to the North Island.

Just 24% say it sounds good to them – as La Nina also often means more easterlies (which surfers like!) and more humidity which can help make northern New Zealand more sub-tropical…if you don’t mind the odd downpour, even campers love this.

La Nina is only a weak one at this stage, which is certainly good news – but the latest rain maps show many New Zealand regions are wetter than average – even parts of Canterbury, which is currently in a 2 year drought! The dry spell coming up this weekend and next week for many areas will certainly be welcome.
