Large thunderstorms rattled Canterbury Wednesday afternoon and WeatherWatch.co.nz readers captured the activity on camera.

I don’t think the thunderstorm was large but it did pack in a small punch over Christchurch with reports of hail in some areas.From my view, it looked as though it came out of an area I call “Thunderstorm Corner” and merged with cold air moving north up along the coast.
This combined with Banks peninsula in the road, this created a bit of instability before the westerly flow above moved the storm out to sea in Pegasus Bay.
