Photos (4) Flooding hits New Plymouth CBD

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A deluge, which shows little sign of significantly clearing anytime soon, has lead to flooding in New Plymouth’s CBD this afternoon.

Our New Plymouth reporter Greg Taylor says a city stream is in flood and some public areas are going under water, including Huatoki Plaza.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says bursts of heavy rain will continue tonight but will ease overnight.

All this talk over many years to open up the Huatoki Stream for a picturesque view and in reality the stream is lethal in certain weather conditions. Such an outcome proved in February 1971 and still much the case. Its like an open sewer that clearly has a mind of its own.
