Thick fog this morning caused travel problems in Auckland with roads crawling and the airport cancelling and delaying a number of flights.
The heavy fog was also widespread across Waikato – and unlike other days the fog didn’t clear to a stunning blue sky, instead the fog cleared only to show another layer of thickening cloud from our approaching low.
WeatherWatch.co.nz received this photo which we think nicely sums up today’s foggy half of the day.
Fog at Sherwood Reserve, Browns Bay, taken around 10am this morning by WeatherWatch.co.nz reader Elena Ponomareva.

Living just up from the shipping channel, we generally get an early morning wake up call when fogs about. This morning it was before 5am with 2 ships inbound and 1 outbound, and visability closing to about 1000m in the channel and on Esmond Rd this morning could not see any part of the harbour.
