We get our worse anticyclonic weather from southwesterlies usually, though we really havent had any really of late, last summer was riddled with this weather and though dry was often ruined by such a strong wind and often the cloud associated with it.

The weather is nice and fine, dont get me wrong. However, with the anticyclonic conditions here in Christchurch we tend to get the annoying afternoon Northeast that can be very fresh indeed. An example of this had occured the last 3 days with temps getting close to 20 then a drop to near 15 in the afternoon as the northeast gets up. I prefer our weather when a low is over the nation as often we get the warm NW and the sheltered affects from the WSW and even SW windflow. We enjoyed some of our warmest weather in a long time when Invercargill was having its snow, sounds strange but that actually was the first real feel of spring for us folk in CHCH. Luckily we havent had the low cloud rolling in at night and hanging around to midmorning (YET). Hopefully we can dodge that. However, it has been very dry the last few weeks here. I have had the hose on the garden most days this week. It was only a month ago that everything was saturated! Since the earthquake, the past 30 days have been great with many days over 20 and very few rain days.

You’ve had more than your normal share of easterly winds this year. That should change in due course.
