> From the WeatherWatch archives

The sub-tropics return to the North Island over the next day or two with a combination of morning and overnight drizzle, daytime patchy rain and heavy afternoon downpours inland due to daytime heating.

Overnight lows may also remain above 20 degrees for many northerners, even coastal parts of the South Island will struggle to drop below the late teens tonight.

Highlights:

  • A elongated front is causing heavy downpours and isolated thunderstorms across the North Island
  • The threat of local downpours remains in Northland, Auckland, and Taranaki until Monday night. Isolated thunder is possible inland across the North Island.
  • Showery and intermittent rainfall continues into Tuesday, with some isolated thunderstorms over the interior
