North hot, South cold

WeatherWatch.co.nz

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Cold air has spilled over the South island today behind a cold front that moved through yesterday, while the North Island swelters under clearing skies and little wind.

As of 1pm it was just 10 degrees in Gore, 12 in Kaikoura, 13 in Dunedin and Invercargill and 14 in Queenstown.   Early afternoon yesterday and Christchurch was in the early 30s today it’s just 15 along with Timaru.

The chilly weather is due to a large low pressure system churning away in the Southern Ocean – hotter weather will return tomorrow,

But in the North Island the heat hasn’t gone away.  This hour it’s approaching the mid to upper 20s in Northland, Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty.
