This has been a bit of an odd winter with incredibly mild conditions prevailing in June and July and maybe for some areas in the second half of August too.
Ski operators are happy with the polar blast at the start of August while farmers and growers in Canterbury were thankful for the wet weather (even if cold) that came from the southerlies to help dent the ongoing drought there.
As we head towards Spring, with some people wanting more snow and others wanting more rain, it raises an interesting question: Just how many people are looking forward to a normal spring this year?
Or are you in one of the two camps that need/want more wintry weather or are desperate for quite the opposite – you’re wanting an early start to the hot and dry.

I always look orward to the Spring storms, with raging NW gales, plenty of westerly rain and hopefully constantly low pressure. Best time of the year! If the current pattern keeps us, we’ll roast in summer. – no thanks. —Cooler climate preference.
