Mostly dry weekend coming

> From the WeatherWatch archives

There’s been a lot of wind and rain around the nation in previous weeks – but this weekend looks fairly settled in comparison predicts WeatherWatch.co.nz.

A small low is expected to skirt northern New Zealand this weekend. Earlier this week the maps showed the low crossing Northland but in the past couple of days the models have nudged this small low further north.  With the low so near Northland, Auckland and other northern regions expect a fair bit of coastal cloud about on Saturday – with a slight risk of a shower, otherwise dry.

Across Bay of Plenty and eastern areas highs are expected to reach into the low 20s, as we’ve seen the past couple of days for some.  The nights, however, are still fairly cool with calmer winds around the country.

On Saturday Wellington may be mostly cloudy also but with a slightly higher risk of a spit of rain. The chance of rain is just 30%.

Those across the South Island will have mostly sunny weather in the east – but highs are well down from previous days.

The West Coast should see some rain about too – with one day of the weekend mostly dry, the other showery at this stage.

Hi there, I see that there is snow forecasted for the Canterbury High Country on Monday night/Tuesday. At this stage is it looking like a significant event? Thank you

Hi there- yes a cold snap coming off or very near Antarctica Mon and Tues for some in the south and east – but it doesnt pack much energy or much moisture – so yes, cold and some snow but nothing serious to low levels.  We will monitor closely – its such a narrow area of truly cold air we are taking our time to get specific as each day the models shift.  One to watch but at this stage not one to be too worried about we hope.

Cheers

Awesome thanks for that! Is the snow looking to come down to around 600m in Canterbury? Thanks

No worries 🙂  I guess it’s possible to see a flurry down that low but at this stage I think it will be mostly above that. We will know a lot more later on Sunday.

Cheers
Phil
