Most Cantabs are basking in the country’s warmest temps

> From the WeatherWatch archives

As of 1:00pm today, Christchurch and Darfield reported a temperature of 20.  Those were the hottest spots in all of New Zealand.  They were also the sunniest.

Matamata, Dunedin and Napier were all at 18.  Hamilton was 17.  Auckland and Gisborne were at 16.  The coolest temperatures were found at Nelson, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Queenstown and Wellington…all report 14 early this afternoon.  Plenty of clouds were to be found about these areas as well.

There was also some rain in few spots about Aotearoa.  Most of the precipitation was confined to the north-western corner of the South Island.  Both Nelson and Westport reported rain at Noon today.

Looks like Kaikoura will take the honours with 22 degrees.

Sounds like it’s been a nice day over most of NZ – going by webcams, the sunniest spots weren’t just in Canterbury.

But surface observations seemed to indicate the the sunniest spots were Christchurch and Darfield.  The webcams I looked at seemed support that.  The satellite images also supported this.
