More winds in the new week – #WeatherRisks on Monday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Winds are sticking around to start the new week, this time from the westerly quarter in places – while there’s also a chance of heavy rain for others.

Wind

For Southland and coastal Otago, winds will be strong from the southwesterly quarter, with a chance they could gust to gale at times.

Further north, afternoon southwesterlies  will blow through the Auckland region, becoming gusty and strong.
These should stay under gale levels, but there is a low risk they may get to gale strength in spurts.

Rain

Showers and areas of rain in Southland may be heavy at times during the morning, with a risk of hail, before easing by midday.
