A low pressure system crosses over the country on Monday moving in a west to east fashion, westerly quarter winds for the North Island meanwhile a southerly airflow develops over the South Island.

Expect showers for most of the western North Island, possibly heavy at times with a risk of thunder. Winds breezy from the west or northwest. The east coast is mainly dry however the Wairarapa sees some rain from midday.

A mix of dry and wet areas for Nelson / Marlborough in the morning, from afternoon rain becomes fairly widespread then clears overnight. Banks Peninsula northwards, morning cloud breaks to some sun for coastal areas, inland expect some morning rain which clears then cloud may break later in the day. South of Banks Peninsula conditions are a bit sunnier with a chance of morning low or fog then in the evening cloud thickens up.

Some morning rain Hokitika northwards, some afternoon sun breaks through. Further south expect mostly sunny conditions, some cloud at times and light winds. About the far south, some low cloud or fog possible then breaking to sunny areas. Cloud thickens up by midday for Southland bringing the odd light shower, the odd light shower or drizzle patch moves into Otago late afternoon or evening.
