Monday’s national forecast – Two fronts

A series of cold fronts move northwards over the country today bringing rain in the west and eventually showers up the eastern side.

North Island

Occasional showers, becoming more frequent from afternoon then turning to rain, a few evening heavy falls possible, easing from the west later this evening / overnight as northerlies change westerly. Sun and high cloud in the east with warm temperatures, a few spits possible for Wairarapa from afternoon then later this evening / overnight some rain spreads from the west for most as a front passes over.

South Island

Heavy rain along the West Coast although easing from the south as a front moves northwards, the last of any heavy rain eases for Buller later this afternoon. Fiordland sees another burst of showers move in this morning thanks to another front but this eases from afternoon. Nelson and Marlborough has showers, turning to rain this afternoon, easing for Nelson from evening but rain continues for Marlborough as northerlies change to the south, rain may even become heavy for a time with hail. Showers pushing through Southland and Otago this morning with a west to southwest change, showers move into Canterbury this afternoon with southerlies freshening. This evening showers ease or perhaps clear for most of Southland and Otago, showers remain however for coastal Southland overnight. Snow flurries for Southland lower to 400m.
