> From the WeatherWatch archives

A southwesterly airflow lies over the country, western regions can expect showers with a trough moving over the upper North Island bringing a heavier burst of showers. In the east there is a stationary front of sorts bringing showers, south of Banks Peninsula conditions dry out after morning showers clear.

North Island

Partly cloudy with occasional showers for the upper North Island, showers may be heavy at times, especially early afternoon with thunder possible as a trough moves through. Bay Of Plenty is mainly dry. Cloudy in the east with showers, it may dry up this evening for parts of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. Winds from the southwest.

South Island

Cloud down along the east coast today with showers, more so along the coastal fringe, drying up by midday anywhere south of Banks Peninsula with sun possibly making an appearance, winds from the east or northeast. Down the middle of the Island skies are drier and potentially sunnier but once again there may be high cloud. The West Coast has cloudy periods and a few showers although north of Greymouth is drier and sunnier, perhaps only a few showers there later in the day, winds from the southwest.
