Monday’s national forecast – Settled for Boxing Day

> From the WeatherWatch archives

New Zealand is mainly settled today thanks to plenty of high pressure, we do however have a weak front about the far south bringing some cloud. Also cool air aloft brings the chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms to the upper North Island.

North Island

A mix of sun and cloud, isolated showers develop about some inland hills and ranges this afternoon, one or two showers could become heavy with thunderstorms then clearing this evening (thunderstorms mainly about the upper North Island if they form). Light winds then afternoon sea breezes for most.

South Island

Mostly sunny, some morning cloud possible then breaking away. The exception is Southland where skies may be cloudier today, this cloud gradually sneaks up into Otago this afternoon then Canterbury this evening or overnight. One or two isolated showers may develop about inland hills and ranges this afternoon. Light winds and afternoon sea breezes for most.
