Monday’s national forecast – NW airflow

A northwesterly airflow lies over the country today, showers in the west and drier warmer weather in the east. A front hits the far south later this afternoon or evening.

North Island

Cloud in the west with a few showers, Auckland northwards skies are sunnier and drier but there may be fog this morning. Bay Of Plenty is sunny then expect some cloud from midday spreading from the west, once again there is a chance of fog this morning especially inland including the Waikato. The east coast has a sunny and warm day. North to northwesterly winds.

South Island

Cloudy in the west with showers, mostly sunny and warm in the east with a touch of high cloud, winds from the northwest. Heavy rain starts to move into Fiordland this afternoon then spreading northwards this evening / overnight with thunderstorms. Rain moves into Southland and the Lakes District late afternoon or evening, spreading to other parts of Central Otago later this evening.
