Monday’s national forecast – Low brings heavy rain

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A low pressure system brings heavy rain to the North Island today, especially in the northeast. The South Island is more settled thanks to high pressure.

North Island

Mostly cloudy with rain, heavy in the northeast (Coromandel through to Hawkes Bay). Dry in the southwest this morning (Taranaki has a few showers though) then rain moves in after midday. Heavy rain in the northeast eases this evening, slipping down into Wairarapa. Rain for Auckland and Waikato eases to showers this afternoon. Northland has a few showers with southerlies tending southwest this afternoon.

South Island

Partly cloudy for Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury. Cloud thickens from the north this evening with showers moving into Nelson, Marlborough and perhaps down into Kaikoura. Winds from the southeast. Further south expect mostly sunny conditions today after morning frost and fog, winds from the northeast in the east and southwest in the west.
