Monday’s national forecast – Heavy rain eastern NI

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A northeasterly airflow lies over the country today with a stationary front sliding down the eastern side, a few troughs for the upper North Island bring the odd isolated heavy shower.

North Island

A mix of sun and cloud for the western and upper North Island, perhaps areas of fog this morning. The odd isolated shower but plenty of dry spells too. Coromandel and Bay Of Plenty have slightly more frequent showers with the chance of a heavy fall. Showers move into the far north late morning, some of those could be heavy with thunder then easing late afternoon. Cloudy along the east coast with rain, heavy falls at times especially from afternoon. Northeasterly winds.

South Island

Mostly cloudy for most regions, the West Coast and far south will have a few bright spots now and then however. Expect showers for Tasman / Nelson and Marlborough, also down along the east coast through to coastal Otago, there will be dry areas open up this afternoon though.
