A series of fronts move north over the South Island today, expect rain or showers in the west and far south, showers eventually move into Canterbury.
North Island
A mix of sun and cloud for the upper North Island with westerlies, one or two showers, showers a little more likely overnight. Bay Of Plenty should stay dry all day. A bit cloudier in the southwest (Taranaki through to Kapiti) with a shower or two and west to northwesterly winds. A dry day in the east with northwesterlies, cloud is thicker south of Napier with a spit or two possible, cloud thickens further north from afternoon.
South Island
Mostly cloudy for the West Coast with showers, early rain for Buller eases. Mid to late afternoon showers clear for South Westland and sunny areas increase as a southwest airflow tends southeast. Nelson has some early mid level clearing cloud, Nelson and Marlborough both have high cloud that clears in the afternoon to sun. The far south sees showers turn to rain this morning, easing back to showers this evening. Canterbury has a dry sunny morning, southerlies develop in the afternoon bringing thickening cloud and eventually showers, perhaps some rain for a time this evening before easing / clearing overnight from the south. Later this evening or overnight Marlborough (especially in the south) has showers. Snow may get as low as 300m about the far south this evening, 400m for Canterbury.
