Monday’s national forecast – Front clears in the north (+12 maps)

A front passes over the North Island first thing this morning off to the east leaving a westerly airflow in its wake, showers this morning then easing. The South Island sees a northwesterly airflow gradually build, showers in the west, dry and sunny in the east.

North Island

Showers in the west then drying up in the afternoon with sun increasing, the odd shower may remain out west. Any morning spits of rain clear in the east then mostly sunny. Westerly winds.

South Island

Early showers clear Nelson / Marlborough then sunny, westerly winds for most but tending easterly in the afternoon for Marlborough. Showers for the West Coast, rain from afternoon about South Westland becoming heavy at night. Sunny in the east, some high cloud possible especially about Southland and Otago. Winds from the northwest in the afternoon, tending northeast down along the coastal fringe.
