A front passes over the South Island this morning then clears and weakens out to the east of the country this afternoon. The North Island will be mostly dry although expect areas of cloud, northerlies about Wellington will be fairly breezy most of the day. Wet for the West Coast of the South Island this morning, a few early showers clear Southland and Otago also with sunny breaks then increasing.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato, CNI & BOP
Sunny areas and some cloud about Northland, Auckland and the Bay Of Plenty. Cloud more persistent in the morning. For the Waikato and Central North Island areas of cloud may hang around for much of the day with the odd sunny spell during the afternoon. West to southwest breezes.

Eastern North Island
Sunny with some high cloud especially towards Wairarapa. Light winds, expect breezy northwesterlies about Wairarapa however easing there in the evening.

Western North Island
Mostly cloudy with northwesterlies, sunny breaks increase late afternoon with winds tending more westerly.
Highs: 21-23
Wellington
Mostly cloudy skies with breezy north to northwest winds, sunny breaks develop mid afternoon with winds easing in the evening.

Marlborough & Nelson
High cloud with northwest breezes, high cloud clearing mid to late afternoon with winds becoming light. Chance of a brief shower about Nelson late morning.
Highs: 22-26
Canterbury
Chance of an early showers with winds changing southerly, then mostly sunny. Afternoon easterly breezes.
Highs: 19-20
West Coast
Morning rain possibly heavy and thundery clearing by midday, then becoming mostly sunny. West to southwest breezes.
