Monday’s national forecast – Rain in the north

A northeasterly airflow lies over the country today, this airflow is between a low in the Tasman Sea and a large high out to the east.

North Island

Mostly cloudy with northeasterly winds, gusty or strong for coastal parts. Rain Auckland southwards into the Waikato and across to East Cape, heavy falls in areas exposed to the east. North of Auckland expect partly cloudy skies and showers, one or two may be heavy with thunder then drying out in the evening. The lower North Island and in the east is drier but some scattered rain is possible at times.

South Island

High cloud, some sun. Low cloud or fog in the east especially near the coast. Nelson and Marlborough is mostly cloudy, cloud thickens and spreads southwards down along the West Coast this evening. The odd spit or shower for the top of the South Island, rain becoming a little more widespread in the evening then spreading southwards down the West Coast overnight. Winds from the east or northeast.
