Rain or showers develop in the west of both Islands today, another warm day is in store out east.

Upper North Island

Cloudy skies with northeasterly breezes, expected the odd shower more so from afternoon. There may be a few dry periods also. Dry in Gisborne with north to northwest breezes and thick high cloud.
HIGHS: 22-24, 26 in Gisborne

Lower North Island

Cloudy skies with the odd shower from morning about Taranaki and the Central North Island, winds from the north or northwest. Showers spreading southwards towards Kapiti late afternoon. Thick high cloud on the east coast with dry conditions and light winds. Cloudy for Wellington with gusty north to northwest winds, the odd brief shower from late afternoon.
HIGHS: 19-21, 25-26 on the east coast.

Upper South Island

Cloudy skies on the West Coast north of Hokitika with showers turning more to rain in the evening, northeasterly breezes. Cloudy in Nelson with northerly breezes, the odd shower after midday turns to rain in the evening. Dry with high cloud in Marlborough although a few showers develop about the sounds late afternoon, breezy north to northwest winds. Hot in Canterbury with some increasing high cloud, northwesterly breezes.
HIGHS: 18-20 on the West Coast, 22 in Nelson. 29-32 in Canterbury and Marlborough.

Lower South Island

Breezy northerlies strong about Fiordland, showers with rain in Fiordland heavy at times easing later in the evening with a southwest change. Breezy northwesterlies about Southland and Otago with high cloud, the odd shower on the Southland coast at times during the day. Winds change southwest in Southland late afternoon bringing more widespread showers then they move into Otago during the evening.
HIGHS: 23-26
