Upper North Island

Southwesterly breezes increase later this morning, expect sunny areas and some cloud. Mostly sunny at first in the Bay Of Plenty. In the West there is the risk of a shower or two this afternoon otherwise mostly dry. Mostly sunny to start in Gisborne, in the afternoon southerlies freshen with some increasing cloud and the odd shower from evening.
HIGHS: 16-17 today for most areas, perhaps 18 in Gisborne

Lower North Island

From Taranaki through to Kapiti and also the Central North Island expect westerly breezes and some cloud developing this morning, the odd shower at times developing also but many dry periods too. Winds tend more southwest by midday. About Wellington expect westerly breezes with sunny areas and some cloud, cool southerlies freshen around midday bringing cloud then evening showers. Mostly sunny about Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa with light winds, southerlies freshen around midday with increasing cloud then expect evening showers.
HIGHS: Mid teen temperatures for most in the west and Wairarapa, 13 to 14 about Wellington. 16 to 17 about Hawkes Bay.

Upper South Island

Southwesterly breezes on the western ranges with showers which ease during the day then clear in the evening as southwesterlies die out. Mostly sunny in Nelson with light winds tending southwest, in the evening a few showers may develop from the east. Sunny in Marlborough with southwesterly breezes, winds tend more southerly around midday with increasing cloud and a few showers developing on the coast south of Clifford Bay. In the evening winds tend more southeast with more widespread showers about the district. Southerlies freshen about Canterbury this morning with cloud, a few showers from midday more so in inland areas with snow flurries to 700m lowering to 500m in the evening then clearing at night.
HIGHS: Mid teen temperatures about Nelson and Marlborough, 13 to 14 on the West Coast. 12 to 13 in Canterbury.

Lower South Island

Cold southwesterlies about Southland and Otago today with showers and snow flurries to 500m here and there easing in the afternoon then clearing by evening, expect sunny areas at times after midday also. Southwesterlies ease after midday dying out at night. Any morning showers clear on the western ranges, sunny areas afterwards with south to southwesterly breezes easing in the evening. Morning frosts are possible on Tuesday especially in sheltered inland areas.

HIGHS: 11-13 degrees in all areas.
