A low pressure system passes over the South Island today, winds from the north ahead of this low tending to the south over the lower South Island.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny areas and some cloud, the odd shower possible especially about the Waikato. Overnight rain moves into Northland with heavy falls. Winds from the northeast.
Highs: 16-18
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas with the odd shower, especially about Taranaki. Some rain moves in during the evening then eases back to the odd shower overnight. Increasing northerlies.

Eastern North Island
Great weather today with sunny areas and some high cloud, winds from the north.

Wellington
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, some evening rain for a time. Gusty north to northwesterly winds.

Marlborough & Nelson
Rain or showers, possibly heavy for a time in Nelson late afternoon / evening then easing. North to northeasterly winds.

High cloud with northerly winds, south to southwesterly winds work there way in south of Banks Peninsula this morning.

West Coast
Heavy rain about South Westland eases to showers during the afternoon, snow lower to 500m in the ranges by evening.

Southland & Otago
Rain, heavy falls possible then easing a tad from afternoon. Some snow lowers to 500m about Southland / Otago, perhaps 300m about southern parts of Southland this evening.
