A cold front moves northwards over the North Island during today then another cold front pushes in hitting the lower South Island overnight.

Showers, some may be heavy. The Bay Of Plenty is mainly dry with a few showers passing through this afternoon. West to southwesterly winds.

Early morning rain for the lower western North Island eases to showers, winds gusty from the west then easing from afternoon. The east coast sees morning high cloud with the chance of a spot of rain then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon, winds from the northwest (a little gusty about the Wairarapa) then easing late afternoon, perhaps tending southwest for a time later in the day. Temperatures will get into the high teens or perhaps early twenties about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.

Any early heavy rain for the West Coast of the South Island quickly eases to occasional showers and southwesterly winds, later in the evening rain moves into Fiordland becoming heavy then pushing northwards overnight. Morning showers for the east coast clearing then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon, cool southwesterlies quickly ease. Later in the evening northwesterly winds build especially inland.

Morning rain for Southland quickly eases to showers and they will likely hang around for most of the day, winds gusty from the west.
