A ridge of high pressure covers most of New Zealand today, an easterly airflow moving around this ridge pushes over the North Island during the day while a northerly airflow lies over the South Island. And finally a front affects the lower South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Expect a few showers for Northland (especially in the east), Great Barrier Island, Coromandel and East Cape in a breezy easterly airflow. A mix of sun and cloud otherwise.
Highs: 23-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny with some high cloud developing, light winds.
Highs: 21-24

Eastern North Island
The odd drizzle patch for Gisborne today, dry periods becoming more frequent from afternoon. Hawkes Bay sees morning drizzle clear then sunny spells develop. Mostly sunny weather for the Wairarapa. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-23

Wellington
Mostly sunny with some high cloud developing, northerly winds.
High: 22

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny, some high cloud developing this afternoon. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-24

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with some high cloud developing this morning then thickening, a few spots of rain possible about South Canterbury late afternoon / evening otherwise mainly dry. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 22-24

West Coast
Mostly cloudy, rain south of Greymouth with heavy falls possible. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 18-21

Southland & Otago
Thick high cloud, a few spots of rain possible. North to northeasterly winds, possibly gusty about some inland areas in the afternoon.
Highs: 22-24
