A southerly change pushing over the upper South Island and North Island during today brings in a cooler patch of weather and some rain. A ridge starts to move in fairly promptly behind this change.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny areas and increasing cloud this morning with a shower or two possible, afternoon rain moves in possibly heavy with thunderstorms as winds change southwest. Rain clearing this evening although a shower or two may linger till overnight.
Highs: 24-26

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Fresh southerlies develop this morning bringing rain or showers, clearing in the afternoon for the most part although showers about Palmerston North through to the Central North Island may not clear till evening.
Highs: 21-24

Eastern North Island
Southerlies freshen early this morning about the Wairarapa bringing showers, hitting Gisborne early afternoon at which point rain is more likely with a chance of thunderstorms.
Highs: 19-26

Wellington
Any morning showers clear, some afternoon sun breaks through. Fresh Southerlies.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
Conditions are dry first thing then a few showers may develop during this morning (mainly inland), perhaps hanging around till evening although they will be quite isolated in nature so some may remain fairly dry especially about coastal areas.
Highs: 21-23

Canterbury
The odd drizzle patch clearing this morning, one or two may hang around till evening although its looking fairly dry from midday onwards with some sun even breaking through. Cool southerlies swing around to the east or northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-18

West Coast
Mainly sunny weather, any early showers about Buller clear, light southeasterlies tend westerly in the afternoon.
Highs: 21-26

Southland & Otago
Any early showers clear then breaking to sunny spells, southerlies tend east to northeast this afternoon.
Highs: 16-22
