A low sits west of the country in the Tasman Sea today, while a cold southerly airflow lies over most of New Zealand. Areas of cloud in the east with the odd shower, mainly Banks Peninsula northwards. Mostly sunny in the west, although there are a few showers for Northland and Auckland.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly sunny about the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty with light winds. Auckland and Northland see areas of cloud and a few showers, especially afternoon onwards.
Highs: 11-13

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly sunny, some cloud this afternoon with the chance of a few showers south of Taranaki. South to southeasterly winds freshen a little from afternoon, mainly near the coast.
Highs: 8-11

Eastern North Island

Chance of some sun this morning then becoming mostly cloudy, with the odd shower possible mainly from afternoon onwards. The odd snow flurry to 500m with any showers. Cold southwesterly winds.
Highs: 9-11

Wellington

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower. There may be a few snow flurries during the day down to 400m however flurries will be light with little to no accumulations expected. Cold southerly winds.
High: 8

Marlborough & Nelson

Mainly sunny with southerly winds.
Highs: 10-11

Canterbury

Cloudy areas with the chance of a shower or two, mainly Banks Peninsula northwards. Showers may bring the chance of a low level (200 to 100m) snow flurry but it must be said that these will only be light and little to no accumulations are expected. Winds blow cold from the southwest.
Highs: 6-7

West Coast

Sunny with east to southeasterly winds, frosty morning and night, especially inland.
High: 10

Southland & Otago

Areas of cloud and some sun about Southland / Coastal Otago, mainly sunny inland. South to southwesterly winds. Heavy frosts morning and night, especially inland.
Highs: 5-9
