A northwesterly airflow lies over the South Island and lower North Island today while a ridge lies over most of the North Island. A small low does move eastwards over Northland during the day, however. Rain for the West Coast of the South Island; sunny for the east of the country.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Chance of an early shower about Northland and Auckland then sunny areas increase, some fog possible in the morning especially inland areas. A chance of fog again overnight. Light southeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly sunny with some cloud thickening later in the day. There may be a touch of fog inland to start the day. Cloud a little more prominent during the day south of Taranaki. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-15

Eastern North Island

A mainly sunny day with light winds, tending northwest.
High: 16-17

Wellington

Sunny areas with breezy northwesterly winds.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, mainly later in the day. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-18

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with some increasing high cloud. Light winds tend northwest, breezy at times inland.
Highs: 16-17

West Coast

Cloudy with occasional rain, northwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-14

Southland & Otago

Thick, high cloud, rain from afternoon about Southland then evening in Otago as northwesterly winds change west to southwest. Rain clears at night.
Highs: 12-15
