A low lies over New Zealand today with its centre over the upper South Island, meaning showers for most of the country with westerly winds in the north and southerly winds in the south.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Frequent showers, some heavy and a bit squally. The Waikato and Bay Of Plenty may be dry this morning. Brisk, cold west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Showers, heavy at times from midday. West to northwesterly winds, gusty at times especially about the coast.
Highs: 14-16

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny this morning, cloud thickens after midday with a few spots of rain moving in late afternoon / evening. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-16

Wellington

Mostly sunny, a few showers later in the evening or overnight. Light winds.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny, late afternoon or evening cloud thickens and rain moves in. Light winds.
High: 13-14

Canterbury
Rain, dry periods at times too. Winds cool from the southwest. Rain clears later in the evening / overnight.

High: 10

West Coast

Sunny areas with southerly winds, a few isolated showers possible from afternoon about North Westland otherwise mainly dry.
Highs: 12-13

Southland & Otago

Rain, easing this afternoon and clearing in the evening. Rain may not clear coastal Otago till overnight. Cold southerly winds.
Highs: 8-10
