Monday’s national forecast

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A potent storm system is churning its way across the Tasman sea.   This low will be our weather maker for the next couple of days, spreading showers and even a few thunderstorms across New Zealand.

For today, look for showers for much of the North Island.  The southern sections may actually be able to dodge the showers during the day.  That will likely change as we head into tonight.  Highs will range from the upper teens to lower 20’s.

For the South Island, clouds will overspread the north half during the day.  Showers are expected to move in tonight.  For the deep south, a passing shower can’t be ruled out.  The chances for getting wet are fairly small, however.  Highs today will generally be in the upper teens to lower 20’s, except for central Otago where highs could get close to 25.

Had some tempting cloud formations in Timaru today, certainly beautiful to look at. Whats the situation for tomorrow looking like? Just curious.

Our Timaru forecast page shows a few showers around tomorrow but the temps aren’t looking especially high – and the winds coming from offshore.  Heavy showers will be more likely well inland over the Alps.

You might want to visit Waikato tomorrow – although it’s a bit of a drive from Timaru!

Hi Phil, What’s happened to the big Hi predicted late last week which would keep those cyclones & bad stuff away? thought we were going to get a good week.
Here in Whangarei we could certainly do with some rain but not the storm type.
My opinion on summer this year as it really has been non existent, too much cloud & easterly type winds, has given low humidity which I do not mind at all, but non of the long periods of good calm sunny type days one after the other. A real fizzer.

Past few days here have been very good after all the dreary stuff but nowhere as nice as usual. Actually have a very calm, very warm sunny periods with cloud day.

We got a perfect day in Auckland today,as hot and sunny as february is and enough rain (about 2 hours proper precipitation) in the morning and gave the garden a good watering.
