A ridge lies over the upper North Island today while a northwesterly airflow builds over the rest of the country, fairly settled apart from the West Coast of the South Island which can expect cloud and showers.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas and some cloud after any morning fog clears, light winds. The Bay Of Plenty is likely to be mainly sunny all day.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Sunny areas and some cloud after any morning fog clears, west to northwest winds.
Highs: 16-17

Eastern North Island

Sunny with light winds, northwesterlies for the Wairarapa.
Highs: 16-17

Wellington

Mostly sunny with northwesterly winds, picking up a little this afternoon.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with some high cloud later today, northwesterly winds pick up this afternoon.
High: 16-18

Canterbury

Sunny with some high cloud later today, northwesterlies gradually build.
High: 16

West Coast

Showers about Fiordland spreading into North Westland later in the evening, northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

Southland & Otago

Areas of high cloud with breezy northwesterly winds, expect a few evening areas of rain.
Highs: 12-16
