A cold southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, expect showers in most regions then easing later today. Showers could be heavy with hail about the top of the South Island this afternoon, also about eastern North Island areas.

Periods of cloud with southwesterly winds, the odd shower about.
Highs: 17-19

Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas this morning then isolated showers develop this afternoon,
possibly heavy then clearing evening. Southwesterly winds.
High: 18

Waikato & Central North Island

A few showers about, possibly heavy with hail this afternoon about the
Central North Island. Periods of cloud otherwise with west to southwesterly
winds.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island

Showers develop this morning about the Wairarapa then spread north this
afternoon on a southwest change, showers could be heavy with a risk of hail and
thunderstorms then easing overnight.
Highs: 16-18

Western North Island

Spells of rain then clearing later in the evening, southwesterly
winds.
High: 15

Wellington

Showers with a risk of hail, cold southerly winds.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson

Areas of cloud. Showers develop this afternoon, possibly heavy with a risk
of hail then clearing by evening with cloud breaking away. Southerly winds ease
overnight with cold temperatures developing.
Highs: 14-15

Canterbury

Showers with a risk of hail, easing afternoon and clearing later on. Cold
southwesterlies.
High: 13

West Coast

A few early showers clearing then becoming mostly sunny, southerly winds
die out in the evening. Chance of a late afternoon / evening isolated shower
about Buller.
Highs: 15-16

Coastal Otago

Occasional showers then clearing late afternoon / evening, cold
southwesterly winds.
High: 10

Central Otago

A few morning showers with a chance of hail clearing, cloud gradually
breaks away during the afternoon with southerlies dying out overnight. Cold
overnight temperatures with a risk of frosts.
Highs: 11-12

Southland

A few showers with a risk of some small hail easing then clearing in the
afternoon, cloud breaks away overnight with cold southwesterlies easing.
High: 11
