A ridge lies over the country today but the squeeze is getting put on by a low to the north of the country and a low / front combination to the south.

Northland
Cloudy spells with east to northeast winds, drizzle possible at times especially later this evening. Overnight there may be a touch of rain about northeastern areas too.

Auckland

Sunny spells with breezy east to northeast winds developing this morning, cloud thickens this evening with drizzle possible overnight for eastern
areas.
Highs: 25-26

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny with some cloud and east to northeasterly breezes, evening cloud
thickens a little especially about the Bay Of Plenty where overnight drizzle
moves in.
Highs: 24-27

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with east to northeast breezes. Cloud a little more abundant
about Gisborne with the odd brief spit or drizzle patch possible at times there,
mainly dry otherwise.
Highs: 24-25

Taranaki

Mostly sunny with some cloud about, northerly breezes.
Highs: 24-25

Western North Island

Sunny with a few flicks of high cloud, light winds.
Highs: 26-28

Wellington

Sunny with some developing high cloud, northerlies pick up after
midday.
Highs: 21-22

Nelson

Sunny spells and increasing cloud with northerlies developing this
morning.
High: 13

Marlborough

Sunny with some high cloud gradually increasing, light winds this morning
then north to northwesterly winds pick up after midday.
Highs: 27-28

Canterbury

Thick high cloud with north to northwesterly breezes for most, just along
the coast winds may tend more northeasterly.
Highs: 27-31

West Coast

Mostly cloudy with north to northeasterly breezes, drizzle about Fiordland
and South Westland from this morning. Rain moves into Fiordland late afternoon
and becomes heavy there overnight.

Coastal Otago

Thick high cloud with east to northeast breezes, the odd spot of rain late
afternoon or evening.
High: 21

Central Otago

Thick high cloud with the odd spot of rain, rain mostly clearing in the
afternoon although there is the risk of some infrequent falls occuring.
Northerly winds.
Highs: 20-21

Southland

Cloudy with the odd spot of rain, rain more likely from late morning then
clearing late afternoon. Northeasterly breezes.
High: 19
