A westerly airflow covers much of the country tonight while an anticyclone is centred just northeast of the North Island. Expect rain on the West Coast of the South Island overnight, drier out east although winds could be strong especially inland. Tamer conditions overnight for the North Island, some cloud in the west.

Northland
Mainly clear skies although a little high cloud starts to develop overnight moving in from the north. Light winds.
Lows tonight: 5-8

Auckland
Clear with some cloud at times, light west to northwest winds.
Low tonight: 6-7

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Mainly clear with a few clouds at times, cloud more likely about the Waikato and Central North Island. Westerly winds.
Lows tonight: 4-7

Eastern North Island
Mostly clear with light winds. Northwest breezes about Wairarapa however.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Western North Island
Cloudy spells with west to northwest breezes. There may be the odd brief shower at times.
Lows tonight: 8-9

Wellington
Mainly clear skies with brisk northerlies.
Low tonight: 11

Nelson
Mainly clear skies with southwesterly breezes easing, high cloud develops towards dawn.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Marlborough
Mainly clear skies, some high cloud develops towards dawn. Breezy west to northwest winds.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Canterbury
Thick high cloud tonight with northwesterly breezes, winds will be strong at times overnight for inland areas.
Lows tonight: 7-9

West Coast
Periods of rain, heavy at times overnight for South Westland with a risk of thunderstorms there too. Brisk north to northwest winds.
Lows tonight: 9-10

Coastal Otago
Thick high cloud this evening decreases with a few clear spells breaking through. Expect north to northwest winds, gusty at times overnight.
Low tonight: 8-9

Central Otago
Mostly cloudy with northwesterly winds becoming strong overnight, the odd shower then some rain develops overnight also.
Lows tonight: 5-6

Southland
Cloudy periods with northwesterlies becoming strong overnight, gale force winds about the coast. Some rain moves in overnight also.
Lows tonight: 8-9
