Unsettled for many tonight with a westerly airflow over the upper North Island, cold southerlies elsewhere.

Northland, Auckland
Showers, possibly heavy with a risk of hail. Gusty westerly breezes.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Central North Island, Bay Of Plenty & Waikato
Showers move in, a risk of hail too. Showers may be heavy but more so about the Waikato and Central North Island, showers ease overnight about the Central North Island. Westerly winds, gusty in areas.
Lows tonight: 2-6

Eastern North Island
Showers about Wairarapa and possibly southern Hawkes Bay, heavy at times. Mainly clear further north.
Lows tonight: 3-5

Western North Island
Showers, the odd heavy fall. Gusty westerlies. Winds change southerly overnight.
Low tonight: 4

Wellington
Later this evening a southerly change brings showers with a risk of hail. Snow flurries to 500m overnight.
Lows tonight: 5-6

Nelson
Winds change cold southwest this evening with a few showers which clear overnight, snow flurries to 500m.
Lows tonight: 1-3

Marlborough
Winds change cold southwesterly this evening with a few showers which ease overnight, some snow to 500m.
Lows tonight: 0-1

Canterbury
Cloudy skies, showers and the odd hail shower move north during this evening with snow flurries to 400m. Showers as they reach Banks Peninsula could be heavy and thundery. Showers becoming restricted to the coast overnight and clearing away from inland areas, snow flurries lower a little to 300m overnight on Banks Peninsula.
Lows tonight: -2-1

West Coast
Showers clear this evening for most although only slowly clearing away overnight for areas north of Greymouth.
Lows tonight: 1-3

Coastal Otago
Cold southwesterlies and wintry showers about and south of Dunedin. Snow to 400m lowers to sea level overnight. Snow showers become a little more widespread overnight however no further north then about Oamaru.
Lows tonight: -1-1

Central Otago
Wintry showers with small hail at times, snow to 400m lowering to low levels (200m or lower) by midnight. Bitterly cold southwesterlies. Very cold overnight with snow, heavy in areas.
Low tonight: -6

Southland
Showers, thundery at times with hail, snow flurries to 200m lowering to sea level later this evening. Snow flurries to sea level for most of the night with heavy falls possible inland. Bittery cold southwesterlies.
Lows tonight: -1-1

Hasn’t looked like thunder at all down this way and looking at conditions now, it looks like parts of the East Coast are getting the strongest winds…

Just got word that there has been some snow showers and even some settling in Timaru over the past hour…
